MEDIMUN was founded in 2005 at The English School in Nicosia, Cyprus.
The first session took place in January 2006 and was certainly an unforgettable event. 150 delegates from across Cyprus gathered at the English School premises for a two-day conference that proved to be a groundbreaking event for the island. This conference, the first of its kind to be held in the region, was a big step towards bringing together youth from across Cyprus in an environment that promotes tolerance, diversity and multiculturalism.
MEDIMUN was initiated by a group of ex-MUN students who were trained in The Hague, The Netherlands, with sponsorship from the THIMUN Youth Network and the World Federation of UN Associations Youth Section. Under the guidance of highly experienced Senior Directors, a large organizing team of about 60 students came together and worked very hard to make the inaugural session of MEDIMUN a resounding success. It was a small step, but a big start!
The session was applauded by key members of the Cypriot and European parliaments, representatives of several UN organizations, and numerous ambassadors.
