The Mediterranean Model United Nations (MEDIMUN) is dedicated to providing a professional, safe, inclusive, and educational environment for every participant. This Code of Conduct applies to all Delegates, Student Officers (Chairs and Presidents), Members, Managers, Secretariat, Directors, Senior Directors, and guests, across all conference phases — the workshop, the conference days, the plenary, social and ceremonial events, official transport, and all online spaces operated for the conference. Participation in MEDIMUN constitutes a binding agreement to adhere to these rules.
This Code applies to everyone who participates in or attends MEDIMUN, at all times during the workshop and conference, on and off the debate floor, at the venue and at any associated location, and within every digital space — including MediBook, official chats and groups, and any communication channel created for a current or past MEDIMUN.
MEDIMUN simulates the United Nations. We expect every participant to uphold:
This Code operates alongside our Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy, and Dress Code. Where a School Director supervises a delegation, they share responsibility for ensuring their students follow this Code.
Strict adherence to attendance policies is required to maintain the quorum and academic integrity of the conference.
Nothing in this section requires a participant to remain in a situation where their health or safety is at risk. Genuine medical, welfare, religious-observance, and accessibility needs will always take priority and will not count against certification. Tell a Chair, Secretariat member, Director, or your School Director as soon as practicable.
MEDIMUN simulates the United Nations; diplomatic courtesy is paramount, and harassment of any kind is met with zero tolerance.
Discrimination is strictly prohibited in all speech, written text, and action. This includes, without limitation, discrimination based on: religion or belief; sexual orientation or gender identity; sex or gender; national origin, ethnicity, or race; skin colour; disability or mental/physical ability; age; or socioeconomic background.
Note on debate: Delegates represent assigned countries or entities and may voice positions that are not their own. Representing a national position is part of the simulation; using the simulation as cover for genuine personal abuse, slurs, or discriminatory attacks against real people is not, and is a violation of this Code.
MEDIMUN enforces a zero-tolerance policy for harassment, including:
Participants must follow the instructions of the Secretariat, Directors, and security/venue staff at all times. Disrupting committee sessions, arguing with Student Officers over procedural rulings outside of formal points, or harassing staff will result in disciplinary action.
Participants must adhere to Western Business Attire for the duration of the workshop and conference. A short summary follows; the complete requirements, including cultural, religious, and accessibility accommodations, are set out in our Dress Code.
Generative AI may be used, where a Chair or Director permits, only as a research and learning aid. Submitting AI-generated text as your own original resolution, clause, or speech, or using AI to bypass the lobbying and drafting process, is a form of academic dishonesty and is treated as plagiarism.
MEDIMUN is authorised to take photographs and video and audio recordings, and to livestream parts of the conference, for documentation, educational, promotional, and archival purposes.
By registering for and participating in MEDIMUN, all delegates, chairs, staff, and attendees consent to being photographed, recorded, and livestreamed by MEDIMUN as part of the conference. Such media may be used in official publications, websites, social media, promotional materials, and future communications, in compliance with the GDPR.
Where a participant or, for a minor, their parent/guardian has a specific objection to the use of their image, they may contact info@medimun.org; we will consider reasonable requests, recognising that some incidental capture in wide shots of a live event may be unavoidable.
Private individuals (including delegates, guests, and external attendees) must obtain explicit consent from the individuals concerned, or from MEDIMUN, before taking, sharing, publishing, tagging, or distributing any photograph or recording made during the conference. Unauthorised recording, sharing, tagging, or publication of personal data or images may constitute a violation of the GDPR and of this Code.
Personal data processed through MediBook is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy and is stored within the European Union (primarily on Amazon Web Services infrastructure in Frankfurt, Germany, via our managed database provider). Participants must:
MEDIMUN is committed to enabling every eligible student to participate. If you have an accessibility, medical, dietary, or other need, please raise it through your School Director or at info@medimun.org in advance so we can make reasonable arrangements.
MEDIMUN is a strictly substance-free educational event.
If you witness or experience a violation of this Code, report it promptly to: your Committee Chair or Manager, any member of the Secretariat, your Director, a Senior Director, or info@medimun.org. Minors should also feel free to involve their School Director.
All reports are taken seriously, investigated thoroughly, and handled with as much confidentiality as is consistent with the safety of those involved and our legal and safeguarding obligations. We will not tolerate retaliation against anyone who reports a concern in good faith. Where a report concerns the safety of a minor, MEDIMUN may involve the relevant School Director, parents/guardians, the host institution, or the authorities.
Depending on the severity and circumstances, MEDIMUN's management may impose sanctions including, but not limited to:
Sanctions are applied proportionately and at the discretion of MEDIMUN's senior management, whose decision is final.
A participant (or, for a minor, their School Director or parent/guardian) who believes a sanction was applied unfairly may request a review by a Senior Director by contacting info@medimun.org within a reasonable period. The review decision is final.
By registering for and participating in MEDIMUN, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to abide by this Code of Conduct and all related Policies. School Directors confirm that they have communicated these expectations to the students in their delegation.
