Staff are the people who run the conference. Delegates are the people who take part in it. These are two different jobs.
A delegate represents a country in a committee. They research, lobby, write resolutions, debate and vote. See What a delegate does.
A member of staff makes the conference happen. Staff run the committees, review the documents, handle registration, run the technology, produce the newspaper, feed several hundred people and keep the three days on schedule.
A school director is not staff. A school director is the teacher who brings a school's delegation and looks after their students. See The school director role.
Staff are divided into two families.
Student Officers run part of the conference itself. They conduct meetings and supervise the content of debate. See What is a Student Officer.
Administrative Staff run the operational side of the conference. See What is Administrative Staff.
Both are staff. Only the first group are Student Officers.
In MEDIMUN, the Secretariat, the Chairs and the Managers are Student Officers. Members are staff, and they are Administrative Staff, but they are not Student Officers. See Staff roles and how they differ.
Most staff at a Model United Nations conference are students. The conference is run by young people for young people, with adults responsible for it overall.
In MEDIMUN, everyone from the Secretary-General down to a department Member is a student. Above them sit the Directors and the Senior Directors, who are teachers and who form the executive board. See The executive board.
Whatever the role, three things are the same for everyone on the team.
You need an account on the conference platform. You need to meet the attendance policy. You need to follow the code of conduct.
In MEDIMUN, a person without a MediBook account does not receive a certificate and cannot attend. See MediBook is required.
In MEDIMUN, the attendance policy is full attendance, unless the executive board has agreed otherwise in advance. A member who does not meet it does not receive a certificate. See What is expected of staff.
Your role belongs to one conference year. A person can be a delegate one year and staff the next. The role you hold this year is the one that counts this year.
If you are unsure. Open MediBook and look at the role shown on your account for the current session. That is the role you hold.
Being staff does not stop you attending as a delegate in a later year. Having been a delegate does not stop you applying to be staff. See Becoming staff.
